I recently finished Before and Again by one of my all-time favorite romance authors, Barbara Delinsky. I was curious about her other novels as she’s the very reason why I love romance novels. Lo and behold, this one is another hit for me.
The story is painful as it deals with loss, but it also teaches readers about the possibilities anchored in second chances and moving forward. Starting over is never easy, but oftentimes necessary.
I took my time reading this one. Not that it was difficult to read, but I found myself savoring the little victories the main character — Maggie — encountered. It’s like I’ve completely stepped into her shoes, giving myself the chance to get into her mindset, finding my courage when she had to.
With that said, if ever you come across this book, I hope you are able to find the peace the characters provided me after knowing their stories and experiences.
We each have a story, as the book emphasizes. Our stories of moving forward may be different, but I’d like to think it runs on the same plane — that being, life.
In the end, life is what we make of it. And sometimes, all you need is a second chance. I’m giving this book a solid 4 stars.
